Frequently Asked Questions

Are your number plates road legal?

Yes, all our number plates are road legal and comply with the regulations set by the DVLA unless stated otherwise in the product description.

Note - We also offer showplates, these are meant for off-road use only.

Are 3D and 4D plates road legal in 2025?

That’s one of the biggest questions we get asked, the simple answer is yes they are!

The legality of 3D and 4D plates came about when the DVLA, along with number plates component manufacturers revisited the standards of number plates in March 2021. They had revised the standards, under the new code of BSAU145e.

These are reflected on the DVLA website:

https://www.gov.uk/displaying-number-plates/rules-number-plates

What are showplates?

Show plates refer to customised number plates that are not road legal.

They are primarily used for display purposes only, such as at events, exhibitions, or within showrooms, rather than for regular road use. Show plates often feature unique designs, fonts, logos, or spacing that do not comply with the legal requirements for standard number plates.

Unlike standard number plates, show plates do not conform to the regulations outlined by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) in the UK.

These regulations include strict guidelines on size, format, font, and spacing. Show plates may incorporate decorative elements, unusual characters, or spacing variations that are not permitted on road-legal number plates.

It is important to understand that using show plates on public roads in the UK is illegal. Displaying non-compliant number plates can lead to fines or even the confiscation of the plates and the vehicle’s registration documents.

Disclaimer: Any orders placed for show plates that are not road legal are done so at the buyer's own discretion.

THZ Custom Workshop will not be held accountable for any illegal use or activity involving non-compliant number plates. It is the responsibility of the buyer to ensure the correct and legal usage of any plates purchased.
